Entertainment sites are buzzing that Sean Combs, formerly P. Diddy, formerly Puff Daddy made a statement on his MySpace blog (that has since been replaced) which said "This is your boy Puff Daddy!!!" It now says "This is your boy P. Diddy".

Various bloggers are coming up with their own names for "P", including Dotspotter's moniker "Puff-tarded". Although my favorite comes from a comment on that blog that suggests "Poop Doody".

Then there are the reviews about Alanis Morissette's new CD "Flavors of Entanglement." The formerly angry singer/songwriter turned lovey-dovey artist, is now angry again.

Not sure if we'll hear about what Alanis did to Ryan Reynolds in a theatre, but we'll definitely learn more about the bitterness she's felt about her breakup with him. I wonder if Dave Coulier tried to warn Ryan? Yes, sometimes love can taste like a "jagged little pill".

So what do P. Diddy and Alanis have in common? They are marketers. Sometimes you just have to go back to your roots to connect with your original audience again, and attract some new fans.

Remember cassette tapes? It's like popping in that tape you practically wore down because you loved it so much. You hear it again, you jam, you reminisce, and when it's over, you pop it out and go back to your portable media player!

Alanis will fall in love and play nice again. And Sean P. Puff Daddy Diddy John Combs will change names again. Artists change their tune as quickly as we shuffle through songs and videos on our iPods...or iPhones.
