I twittered earlier that I made my 1st Salvation Army donation today. I'd stopped into Walgreens and dropped a dollar in the bucket. Then I had to stop by the grocery store...and there was another ringer.
I always feel bad when I leave a ringer hi-n-dry. They always say hello and ask "How are you?" They remain friendly even though so many people walk by them without donating.
I actually think about saying "Hey I just donated over at another store" but why bother? I think about dropping in change or a dollar every time I see a ringer, but that isn't economical.
So, I donate every once in a while when I'm out...yet I still feel a twinge of guilt whenever I have to just pass one by.

I try and teach the 4 year old to give, but usually it's one coin. I make sure that she knows that the money is going to chi;dren who don't have any toys so they can have some as well. Yes, it's one coin at a time, and sometimes not more than a nickel, however every bit helps. I completely understand the guilt associated with passing by a bell ringer, but Im sure even they have to pass by the ocasional bucket or two.
I am also positive that they don't go home and remember you specifically and say "if only that lady earlier today had given a quarter, blah blah". Guilt works wonders though doesn't it? ;)
BTW, the 4 year old has been asking where our money is, if we are giving money to people why aren't people giving us money, and this will have to be a lesson learned over time ;)
Amy,
"but Im sure even they have to pass by the ocasional bucket or two. "
- What a great point!
Also,
"I am also positive that they don't go home and remember you specifically and say "if only that lady earlier today had given a quarter, blah blah".
- You made me laugh out loud with that one! I know they don't remember me, I just feel like a cheapskate in that moment.
One more
"the 4 year old has been asking where our money is, if we are giving money to people why aren't people giving us money"
- I've had the very same thought in regards to the Wall Street bailout!
Thanks for checking in. BTW, I've added you to my favorite Bloggers!
